The Star Wisdom Teaching embraces a philosophy that evolved out of Cheryl’s partnership with her late husband Dennis Stoll (1912–1987), a noted British composer, conductor and deputy to Sir Thomas Beecham (1879–1961). He was the son of Sir Oswald Stoll, who built the London Coliseum as part of the Stoll-Moss empire.
Dennis was also an Egyptologist and author of ten books including “Music Festivals of The World” and “Music Festivals of Europe”. Both books have forewords by Sir Malcolm Sargent (1895–1967), regarded, along with Sir Thomas Beecham, as a leading British conductor of his time.
Cheryl Stoll, neée Carter, Caribbean by birth, with a cosmopolitan background, has been able to access all the richness of the mixture of civilisations within her. Born in Trinidad, she moved to the UK at the age of 14 with her family. In 1978, Cheryl joined the group of Ancient Egyptian Temple Dancers which was a part of The Ancient Egyptian Arts Association founded by Dennis. Together they led two Nile cruises of self–discovery in Egypt and, until his death, gave lectures, conducted seminars and workshops in England, Holland and Australia.
In December 1987 Dennis passed away, leaving Cheryl to continue the work they had shared. In 1988 Cheryl made a world tour taking the Star Wisdom Teaching to America. She has since been living in New York having also spent some years in the San Francisco Bay area.
In New York, she has conducted workshops and lectures on the Star Wisdom Teaching at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, The Open Center in Manhattan and The New York Public Library on 42nd Street.
Cheryl founded the New York Sanctuary where she gave classes, workshops and private sessions. She conducted retreats at the sanctuary as well as in upstate New York and at the Grand Canyon. She has also presented her teaching and paintings at various whole-life expos and exhibitions across America.
In 1993 Cheryl had her first art exhibition at the New York Sanctuary. Between 1995 and 1999 annual solo shows of her paintings and poetry took place in London as well as exhibitions in Los Angeles and other parts of California.
During 2001 Cheryl launched, in the UK, The Shining One Cards – ‘a key to living a loving life’; and The Companion of the Hours, a daily calendar of the Star Wisdom Teaching insights, ‘to assist us through the hours of our day and night when daily living, with its crises, confronts us’. These provided her students with an invaluable and enduring template for approaching life on a daily basis.
Between 2002 and 2011 Cheryl continued to work intensively, through sessions and retreats, with private clients from around the world. She developed the Art of Living series of classes in New York and visited London several times for workshops, classes and sessions. Interestingly, her work has also led her to heal horses and birds.
As Cheryl is always guiding and showing ways of living without conflict, she developed the calendar further, writing triadic inspirations, monthly inspirations and creating 12 oil paintings, one for each month, shown on the home page of this website.
2012 marked a celebration of Dennis and Cheryl’s combined work with the launch, worldwide, of the workshop, Dance of the Cosmos.
